Ex gamer makes US World Cup team

Written by mki, 26/05/2010 23:54

For many of our international readers, Stuart Holden might not really ring any bells. However, Americans might remember Stuart Holden as F^Holden, who played on Forsaken (the team fatal1ty went to CPL with).

Major news was released in the United States today with the announcement of the final, 23-man world cup roster which will head to South Africa this summer. Now, a lot of you might be asking yourself the question - will Fx be updating us on every countries world cup rosters now? Not to worry, we have not switched interests as this story has everything to do with gaming.

Looking over the 23-man roster, I found a very familiar name. A name which I've known for a while from back in the days when the CPL was a respected tournament organizer. Looking over a few forums, I realized why. The name Stuart Holden, reminded me of Stu Holden, or simply F^Holden who played with Forsaken (a Texas area team in the United States).

Holden's team Forsaken attended the CPL 2003 event in which they shocked many teams. This is also a famous tournament because of the famous gamer Jonathan "fatal1ty" Wendel. fatal1ty was supposed to play with Forsaken at this event, however he sat on the bench and did not get to play a single match.

Holden retired from professional gaming after playing for one of North America's top Counter-Strike 1.6 teams at a time where Counter-Strike in America was at its peak. From the beginning he let everyone know, he was leaving Counter-Strike to pursue his soccer career, and look at him now. Stuart Holden plays for Premiership's Bolton Wanderers and will be one of 23 men representing the United States in the FIFA 2010 World Cup!

We'd like to wish the best of luck to this old Counter-Strike 1.6 star in his World Cup endeavours!
